Introducing a pet-owner app in your veterinary clinic

Make the first useful action the goal of onboarding.

An invitation sent is not an owner successfully onboarded. Before expanding a clinic app, check whether owners can find the right pet, understand the clinic’s instructions and complete the first agreed action. This guide helps practice managers organize that handover without turning a consultation into a technical support session.

Prepare the invitation around the care pathway

Choose who introduces Petomo, who confirms the clinic connection and who can resolve access problems. Explain the purpose in ordinary language: the owner will see the clinic-approved plan and submit the updates the team has requested. Public registration alone does not create monitored care. An authorized clinic team must activate the care episode. State review hours and the existing urgent contact route before asking for the first update; the app is not a promise of an immediate response. Keep these statements consistent between reception, the consulting team and written instructions.

Use a five-step handover

  • Check the recipient and pet together. Confirm that the person can access the email or device they intend to use; do not ask them to disclose a password.
  • Show one meaningful action, such as finding the approved instructions or completing a requested check-in. Let the owner do the action rather than only watching a staff demonstration.
  • Ask the owner to explain the next step and when the clinic expects it. Correct misunderstandings about timing, response hours or who reviews the information.
  • Offer an agreed alternative when the person cannot use the app. Record that route so the next shift does not interpret missing app activity as ignored care.
  • Log the outcome: connected and first action completed, support needed, declined, or alternative agreed. Record the operational reason without unnecessary personal detail.

Worked example: distinguish adoption from invitations

In a fictional first week, 20 owners are invited, 15 establish the correct connection and 12 complete the first agreed action. That is 12 of 20 invited owners, not a 100% success rate because all invitations were sent. Review the other eight: an access issue needs different support from an owner choosing the alternative route. Record staff assistance time and whether the action was completed within the agreed window. These numbers illustrate a measurement method, not Vetomo results. During the free month, which includes all currently available features, repeat the same measurement after changing one unclear step. Keep the PIMS as the clinical record and confirm the available handoff separately.

Questions from practice teams

Questions from practice teams

Should every owner be required to use Petomo?

Decide suitability with the clinic and offer an appropriate existing contact route for people who cannot participate. The useful measure is whether the agreed care communication works, including supported alternatives. App installation alone does not prove understanding, clinic connection or clinical review.

Veterinary client communication software

Keep client conversations connected to the care plan.

A question after discharge needs context: which patient, which plan and what happened at home. Vetomo brings clinic-connected owner updates into the aftercare workflow so your team can review the information before responding.

Plan a one-month veterinary digital-care pilot

Give the pilot a question your team can answer.

A useful pilot ends in a supported decision: continue, adjust or stop. Vetomo’s free month includes all currently available features. Choosing a familiar starting pathway keeps the evaluation understandable without restricting access.
